It’s as hot as summertime here in Windermere. Our laundryman arrived to pick up used linen and to drop off clean sheets and towels. He was feeling rather uncomfortable because of the heat, and said it was more like Summer than Spring. One of my sons has gone out dressed only in a T-shirt and shorts and shoes with no socks. Meanwhile our guests are turning up in Summer clothing. If this is the way the weather’s going, we are in for a scorcher this year!
Inside our house, the sun is streaming in. It has been amazing: not a cloud in the sky and warm and still, with not a breath of wind. I hope that we will continue to enjoy excellent weather as this will encourage more people to visit the Lakes, often known for its incessant rain; which, by the way, is really not true.
Our younger son will be home for Easter this Friday. I have not seen him for a little while now – about a month – so it will be so nice to see him soon. I am sure he grows taller every time I lay eyes on him, because he keeps telling me that his clothes are getting too small. Well, he is either putting on a growth spurt or he is shrinking his clothes in the wash!
I have been tweaking the prices on our on-line booking link, and now prices are keener than ever to reflect our 10th anniversary celebrations. For some of our rooms in particular, we are offering them at just £2 above our 2002 rates, which does not even begin to take into account inflation and the VAT increase from 15% to the current 20%. We have also totally upgraded the rooms from 2002 when we first arrived at Blenheim Lodge, so you can be assured of lovely B&B accommodation for your stay.
Someone I was speaking to today made a very interesting comment. He told me that there are places in Bowness and Windermere with rooms that cost the same as ours, but that we are the only ones with those awesome Lake Windermere views – and all for the same money. This was something I had never considered. As our location is such that we do not sit on a main road with two long rows of hotel and guest house accommodation side by side and lining it, I had never thought to compare ourselves with other places to stay in all the 10 years we have been at Blenheim Lodge.
Our quiet hilltop location has rather spoiled us, I think, in terms of running our guest house. We are a mere 5 minutes’ walk to Bowness centre and its amenties, and just 7 minutes’ walk to Lake Windermere and the pier; yet our Bowness B&B feels like a million miles away, as one of our guests so accurately remarked. Living and visiting at Blenheim Lodge is a little like escaping the hurly burly of everyday life – there is a sense of peace and tranquillity that soothes and relaxes the spirit and enables one to let go of the tensions of daily life. Add to that fresh air, beautiful birdsong, and fabulous views – as one of our guests said when she escaped the grind of her Ph.D. studies for the third time and came again to stay with us, ‘It’s paradise.’
Well, what can I say except to issue an invitation to you to visit us? Make your own getaway. Plan your very own retreat now or bring your friends and family along to enjoy a fun time out exploring the Lakes. Our guest house is ideally situated as a base in the heart of the Lakes, and you will find it easy to get out and about. Let us help tailor make your vacation for you.
