We have today put up a special offer on a website that advertises historic guest homes. Blenheim Lodge is a grand old lady of Victorian vintage, having been constructed in 1868; thus our former gentleman’s residence more than falls into the category of historic homes. The late availability special rates we have put up start from only £40 per person per night for bed and breakfast in a room with lake views.
I have spent much of this week and the last working hard on the administrative side of running a Bed and Breakfast. Aside from the obvious ones of paying bills and renewing or making new advertising contracts with various websites, I have also finally finished the work on those YouTube video segments that have been dogging me since Summer 2012. Pui says that she will make a start on them soon; but once that happens, I will have to make comments etc. and do more work on them again. Meanwhile, however, I am more than glad that they are out of the way.
We have decided this year not to increase our B&B prices in 2013. To tell the truth, our prices have remained more or less static over the last four years. This year, however, rather than increasing our rates, we have reduced them through specific special offers, such as our early forward booking deal, whereby guests can save 10% on any three-night stay.
At the beginning of every year, I always wonder what the new year will bring. How can we best cater to our guests’ experience so that they return home refreshed and rejuvenated from their stay with us? This is an area of prayer and hopes.
I have taken a break from uploading photos onto a new website we are going to advertise with in order to write this post. It is a website that we have never tried before, but I hope that it will work well for us. Commission is 13% on each and every booking, so it is not a cheap advertising platform to use. Having said that, some websites charge even more than that! For this reason, our special offers are only available to guests who telephone or email us directly.
I would be grateful if any of my readers would like to make suggestions on what kinds of special B&B packages they would like see and which they think will attract new guests to our guest house. Remember that we are also needing to make a living wage, just like everyone else, but we are open to any ideas you might have. Oftentimes, we can work with local outfits, so if your ideas include other activities or services, do still field them to me. I would appreciate any feedback.
