One of the lovely things about Springtime is the new growth of exquisite flowers which impart their bright sparks on our already beautiful Lakeland landscapes. Combined with the freshness of country air, the cheerful optimism of tuneful birdsong, along with the wide open spaces of the Lake District’s fells and waters, the injection of colour from pretty flora can only enhance the visitor’s experience of the Lakes. At Blenheim Lodge, we are fortunate enough to be located just minutes’ walk to Lake Windermere and the fell behind our B&B, where guests can enjoy all this incredible beauty for themselves.
Possibly the best known harbinger of Spring is the daffodil. The daffodil announces that Spring is on its way or already here. It’s bright yellow petals announces Springtime’s longer days and sunshine to come. Visitors will see masses of daffodils by Windermere’s lakeshore. More daffodils wave their gaudy heads along the shores of other lakes, tarns and meres, bringing instant colour to their surroundings.
Daffodils held a special significance for one of Lakeland’s most famous sons – William Wordsworth. The famous Dora’s Field, which Wordsworth planted in remembrance of his daughter after her death, is oft visited by visitors to the Lake District. Located by Rydal Mount, a bank of daffodils slopes down to the main road from this former Poet Laureate’s home, a poignant reminder of her parents’ love that has stretched on through the centuries.
Springtime is a lovely time to visit the Lake District. Everything, from attractions to amenities, is open as usual. At Blenheim Lodge, we too are open to bed and breakfast guests as usual.
