What I found in my backyard

I was speaking on the phone to my sister yesterday when I happened to look out of our kitchen window. This is what I saw!

What I saw in our backyard at Blenheim Lodge. You can see the trees on the fell rising above us behind the trio of men and horse.

I could hardly believe my eyes. A horse? In our backyard? And who was that holding the horse? What a beauty he was! And he was so good just standing there having his nose gently and rhythmically stroked.

Then I saw the rider. He had a bandanna tied over his head and was standing at wooden pillar Hubby had erected. I stared at him bemused. Who was this with a bandanna tied pirate style?

It was the blacksmith, come to see about erecting a gate for us so that we can have an area just outside our kitchen for the dogs to sit out on nice days. The blacksmith told us that the day was so lovely that he decided he would ride to our house instead of driving here. I thought it was very quaint. It made me think of olden days and how people travelled then.

The Dales Way, Brantfell, Lake District

This is what the area looks like behind the hedge where the horse and men were standing. It is our hedge that you can see here, separating our backyard from Brantfell, through which meanders The Dales Way footpath.

Seeing the horse in our backyard made my day yesterday. It made me feel as if I were living in the countryside rather than a village or small town. I like this feeling of being one with nature.

Well, I will end here with a photo of Bowness-on-Windermere baking in the summer sunshine. Do come and share this lovely weather with us in the Lake District. And do remember to contact us for bed and breakfast accommodation if you are coming to stay in The Lakes.
