Possible light at the end of the tunnel

My last post told of how the name of our guest house, Blenheim Lodge, and general location, Windermere, had been hijacked by a large conglomerate to advertise their own accommodation, the booking of which by guests would earn them commission. Since then, it has been an ongoing hassle trying to get in touch with the various parties to see whether we can stop this unauthorised use of our copyright photos and information on their websites. Finally, I think I may have some good news to report.

I am saying that this news might be potentially good only because we need to see what actually happens. Two of the sites which belong to the same company have replied and said that they will remove the offending adverts. Unfortunately, one also said that there is a glitch in their system which will continue to show that we have no availability for a further week or fortnight. Of course this is damaging to our business, and the results are palpable as we have weeks ahead practically empty of bookings, including the one coming up.

The result of such unscrupulous use of our images and information has meant a significant drop in income for us. What can we do? Only pray that the Lord will resolve this for us and help us. We cannot afford to sue these sites for compensation as they are worth billions and we are worth peanuts in comparison. We cannot make people book our place by touting as we do not know who wants to stay in Windermere in any case. Finally, we have no means to letting potential customers who reach their sites know that we are not full and that these sites are simply using our details to lure them to other places to stay.

Blenheim Lodge was built in 1868 and must seen much and hold LOADS of memories.

Here is one of the photos of Blenheim Lodge being used by a third party site to advertise our ‘non-availability’ of rooms despite the fact that we DO have availability, in order to drive guests to their commissioned based hotel customers.

Summer is a crucial time for us at Blenheim Lodge. We need to do well during this period so as to save up for expenses in the quiet times. What has happened to us is therefore a huge body blow.

Well, we still need to confront a few other websites which are using our details without our permission, but hopefully the two that have replied will do what they have promised and remove our details within the fortnight. We have already written to all the ones we found but only those two have replied after a week’s wait. I get this feeling that the others might well ignore our requests to desist and cease from using our details. Perhaps we will email them desist and cease notices since they have not come back to us to date. Herein ends my second moan!

It is good to be able to see some light in this problem, hopefully it will be fully resolved soon…

You’re welcome! Btw, how’s your recent business despite this uneventful incident?

Perhaps you should include a disclaim at your homepage about this, so that people who browsed your homepage will have a clear instruction of where to book so that they would not be cheated.

Thank you so much for your enquiry. It is not good news. I found out that as soon as the other two ads were taken down, a different branch of the same company put another two ads up!
Also, I found other affiliate websites doing the same thing to us. Aargh!
So, I have found one potential solution ie to buy pay per click advertising, although this is costly.
    I can only pray now.

    You’re welcome, my friend!

Perhaps this is one good opportunity to practice “Be Still”…don’t worry too much…when your heart is at peace, solution will soon seep into your head.

All the best and hopefully this crisis will be over soon!

    Cheers~ 😀

You are right, of course. In fact, I was just thinking this when I received your comment. Do you know the song, ‘Be still for the presence of the Lord, the Holy One is here’? One of the lines goes, ‘No work too hard for Him, in faith receive from Him’. This refers to the Lord’s saving grace, but it is comforting that it can equally apply to our experiences of life’s difficulties.
I think it will take a good long while before things are sorted out, but one lives in faith and hope!

    Yes, have faith, my friend!

    Everything happens for a reason!

Take care and be well, always~ Cheers!! 😀

Faith works! Sometimes not as we wish, but God IS FAITHFUL.
