I was speaking with the boss of the Windermere Tourist Information Centre this morning and he told me that the Christmas lights would be switched on in Bowness and Windermere tomorrow, so I thought I would share this information with anyone interested in this Lakeland event. The Windermere Seeking Santa Cruise from Bowness Pier and StarsParade through Windermere village takes place on Saturday 30th November 2013. It includes the Winter Lights Switch-on and Grand Firework Finale in Queens Park. There will be entertainment, food, drink, mulled wine and fun and games!There are some important changes to the event this year. There will be two cruises with the first at 10:30am, which will be a 1 hour cruise with Santa. The second cruise will take place at 12 noon with Santa boarding both cruises from the start.
Plus the Winter Masked Parade has been replaced by a Stars parade, the stars for which will be made in workshops via St Mary’s Leapfrog during October.
Santa Cruise & Stars Parade 2013 Programme:
10:00am – Boarding of Windermere Lake Cruises steamer from Bowness Piers for the Sing-a-Long Seeking Santa Cruise
10:30am – Departure of Seeking Santa Cruise accompanied by Peter Rabbit and his storyteller ‘Beatrix Potter’ reading ‘A Winters Tale’ to the children. Every child will receive a gift from Santa. Please note no pushchairs will be allowed on the Cruise.
12noon (approx) – Return of Seeking Santa Cruise with passengers met by Booths Horse and Carriage who will take Father Christmas on a tour of Bowness.
3:30pm – Windermere & Bowness Community Choir will be in Windermere village to entertain you with some festive tunes.
4:30pm – Procession leaves Windermere Railway Station led by Santa on his sleigh along with his helpers and the Kookaburras Drummers. The procession heads down Victoria Street, Crescent Road onto Broad Street and then into Queen’s Park Recreation Ground. The Winter Lights will be switched-on along the way. There will then be a Free Fireworks Display at Queen’s Park Recreation Ground. Burgers, mince pies, mulled wine and soft drinks will be for sale. Donations via marshalls with collecting buckets will be welcomed.

Tickets prices are £11.00 adults (including drink and mince pie), £6.50children (including gift, drink and biscuit). The parade and fireworks display are free of charge.

If you prefer to walk from Bowness to Windermere, it will take about 15-25 minutes depending on your destination in the latter town. The train station is in Windermere.
