The Lake District and Cumbria in general are not short of fairs. Visit them for fun, for a memorable day out, and to enjoy a flavour of the Lakes and Cumbrian country life. Here are just three to consider of the many that populate the Lake District calendar.
One of the most visited country fairs in Cumbria is the Lowther Show, set in the grounds of Lowther Castle. This year, the show takes place on 13th and 14th August. A feast for those interested in country pursuits, the Lowther Show’s ‘What’s On’ programme can be found on their website. The image below is an older photo but it does give a flavour of the exciting day to be had at the show.
For dog lovers, a visit to the Hawkshead Show is a must. This year, their Main Ring Attraction is Shaun Raywood’s Dog Display Team. One of the founding members of the show was Beatrix Potter herself, of whom the Lake District National Park is celebrating her 150th year (of birth). Hawkshead is a 20-minute ride by cable car ferry and road from Blenheim Lodge.
Another popular fair is Grasmere Lakeland Sports and Show. Held in the pretty village of Grasmere just 9 miles drive north of Blenheim Lodge in Bowness, this show is located within the Lake District National Park, and celebrates its 166th year when it opens on 28th August 2016, during the August Bank Holiday long weekend. As I like vintage cars, I am going to post a photo of one from Grasmere Sports’ Twitter feed confirming that vintage cars will be on the field again this year: https://twitter.com/grasmeresports.
And if you are looking for somewhere nice and comfy, homely and friendly to lay your head whilst visiting the Lakes, do come stay with us at Blenheim Lodge B&B. We have late availability this summer and also during the August Bank Holiday long weekend.
Blenheim Lodge . . . panoramic Lake views, peace and tranquillity, nestled against acres of beautiful fields and woodlands, in the heart of the English Lake District National Park.’
